A third-party review of Nordborg geothermal application was performed related to a fulfilment of the Danish Subsoil Act for the medium deep drilling of geothermal wells (approximately 400 m b. gl.). Focus was put on geology, well design, well construction and risk assessment and assistance regarding obtaining insurance was provided.
Energy Machines and WellPerform jointly worked together and developed the work programme for the Nordborg geothermal wells, which are planned as a combined producer/injector well pair in the upper part of the Chalk Group Formation. They form part of an ATES pilot geothermal plant development at Danfoss in Nordborg and the drilling activities started in August 2024.
The work programme described the operational sequence for the construction of the first of the two wells. This includes equipment rig-up, installation of structural conductor, drilling into the chalk, installation and cementing of casing and drilling the chalk reservoir to prognosed total depth.
Geological support for Energy Machines at the well site was provided to confirm the presence of the chalk and any distinctive formations above it.
