Deep Water Planning

Drilling deep water wells presents an array of technical, operational, and environmental challenges. Overcoming these requires extensive planning. Even with modern advancements, deep water project remains one of the most complex and risky endeavors in the oil and gas industry.

At WellPerform we have a team of experienced engineers specializing in providing reviews and engineering support to the Deep Water and Ultra Deep Water projects. As per IADC lexicon and NORSOK D10 (Source: D-001)Deep Water is defined as water depth exceeding 600 m TVD SS. Ultra Deep Water is beyond 1830 m TVD SS (Source: API Spec 17E October 2010).

As a testimonial, an Ultra Deep Water advanced well engineering training was delivered in August 2023 to TOTAL Energies Brazil entity. Successful engagement was helpful in preparing the engineers for challenging operations and well testing.

Our individual experiences also include:

  • Review and peer support in the design and planning of ca. 40 wells(producers and injectors) for a Deep Water project as a TLP (tension leg platform) with water depth ca 1650 m. Geographical location offshore Angola.
  • Review of well design and planning of non-operated Deep Water project Jack and St. Malo, Gulf of Mexico. Project operated by Chevron.

WellPerform expertise also includes support on the fluids and cementing critical to a Deep Water well planning and construction.
